Type Locality and Naming

Along the Khodzhabuzbarak River, South-Western Gissar. V.A. Khokhlov, V.E. Golovin et al. in 1972 as part of the Baysuntau series of metamorphic rocks (307, p.68). It is lower formation within the Baysuntau Gr.

Synonym: Khodzhabuzbarak Suite, Khojabuzbarak Fm, Khodzhabuzbarak Fm, Ходжабузбаракская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Rhythmically alternating biotite and cordierite-sillimanite-biotite gneisses in the lower part and biotite, biotite-sillimanite gneisses in the upper part of the suite. Quartzite and amphibolite bodies are noted. M. from 500 to 1960m. A.V. Pokrovsky (349) found small eclogite bodies among the orthoamphibolites.

Lower contact

According to R.N. Abdullaev, the boundary with the underlying Karatash Fm is normal, conformable

Upper contact

It conformably lies the Aylangar Fm.

Regional extent

South-Western Gissar, Baysuntau Mountains, watershed part of the Khodzhabuzbarak-Karatash rivers, right bank of the Khodzhabuzbarak River, watershed of Khodzhabuzbarak-Diyemalek, upper reaches of the Diyemalek River, forming the core of the Diyemalek anticline.

Age 

The age of biotite from sillimanite-cordierite gneiss, determined by the potassium-argon method, is 1400 (?) million years (73). In the Strat. Sl. (442), it is conditionally referred to the Archean; on the State Geol Map-500 of Uzbekistan (460), it is dated conditionally as Proterozoic.
